The Evolution of Signs 1 to 3 by Patricija Venckutė

Introduction

Everything in our Universe experiences cycles of evolution that have a beginning point serving as a firm stepping stone to the next phase. Since Earth is a part of our Universe, such cycles are evident in it as well. For example, a seed of an apple placed in the ground eventually grows into a tree, blossoming with flowers that later on transform into fruits. When the fruits fall, they release seeds which can start a new cycle of tree development. Just like with this example, an identical process occurs with all of the signs in Vedic Astrology. This essay will describe how the 1st sign evolves into the 2nd sign and how the latter influences the 3rd to emerge.

The 1st Sign

The 1st sign from an astrological numerology point of view stems from the number 12, which represents the ending of the entire cycle. However, we discover that the ending is not absolute by adding 1 + 2 and getting 3, which shows that there is a seed for a new cycle of creation in the 12th. That new cycle is marked by number 1 (Kurczak, Rasi Class 2, 2022). In Vedic Astrology, the 1st sign, just like Aries related to it, symbolizes an ability to initiate and give birth to any new beginnings (Kurczak, Rasi Class 1, 2022). It’s also the birth of self-awareness or the “I am” – the individuated path of a soul and its perspective through which the world is understood (Kurczak, Rasi Class 1, 2022).

The actualization of the number 1 happens when a soul leaves one body to reincarnate into a new one to start a new cycle, a new experience. With the new body and a new life, the soul begins to generate ideas and ambitions for its path here on Earth. There are millions of possibilities for the 1st sign to manifest, but each and every one of us chooses a specific individuated path according to our karma. With that said, imagine a soul in a girl’s body creating a vision for her life’s path and for her sense of individuality to become a tattoo artist. As soon as she sets her mind on having a path to become that, she activates her 1st sign. In other words, the girl’s 1st sign sets in motion to carry into effect an individuality based on the idea of “I am a tattoo artist”. From this point, the girl also starts to proceed her conscious energy toward the upcoming signs to complete her journey.

Since the 1st sign only acts like a machine that generates ideas, the girl's life path needs something additional that could begin manifesting the necessary resources for it to become tangible. That’s when the 1st sign evolves into the 2nd sign to move one step closer to becoming an artist.

The 2nd Sign

As I have already mentioned, the 2nd sign follows after the 1st. This number helps to stabilize the initial energy of the 1st sign by providing a supportive, solid, and stable ground on which the latter can stand. To put it in another way, while the 1st was about creating a vision for a personal path, the 2nd is about gathering things that are needed to begin fulfilling that path (Kurczak, Rasi Class 1, 2022).

Coming back to my example of a girl envisioning becoming a tattoo artist, her 2nd sign would show what is required to develop and accumulate to sustain her path. Perhaps, she would have to buy some essential tools for tattooing, such as needles, a tattoo machine, sketch papers, markers, a bottle of bactericide, and the like. These objects perfectly represent the number 2 associated with the sign Taurus, thus symbolizing material belongings. Next to obtaining necessary possessions, the girl would also have to connect herself to some kind of property, like a private room or a public studio, where she would learn to become responsible for it by paying the rent and taxes and where she could use her belongings to practice tattooing. In addition, while using her tools, the girl would have to learn to be responsible for them as well as to learn to develop deep roots in that specific property by doing tattoos there for a longer period. Finally, by meeting her responsibilities and obtaining worldly goods, the girl would activate and accomplish her 2nd sign requirements.

When the 2nd sign of property, ownership, and responsibility becomes actualized, the 3rd sign of mentalism, exploration, experimentation, and learning can come to light.

The 3rd Sign

After obtaining the necessary resources represented by the 2nd sign, the initial energy of the 1st moves into the 3rd sign to become a more complex being by beginning to mentally think, analyze, experiment, explore, and develop skills based on the 1st and the 2nd sign (Kurczak, Rasi Class 1, 2022).

When we start something new in our lives, we usually have many questions about it. How does it work? How can I do it? Is it better this way or another? What is possible and what is not? To answer these questions, we dive into our mental reservoirs to think of similar matters we have already encountered and that could be useful again, or we directly use our mental capacities to come up with solutions from the yet unexplored area (Kurczak, Rasi Class 1, 2022). This mental action rises from the 3rd sign, associated with the sign Gemini – a perpetual student of life who acquires new knowledge and skills by going through trial and error. To better understand how that realizes, I will refer back to the example of a girl wanting to become a tattoo artist.

As the girl instigates her life’s path to grow into an artist and as she manages to get the necessary belongings, she then has to think and explore all of the possibilities of creating a tattoo. Imagine that the girl has never seen how a tattoo is made, thus first of all she has to discover a way to learn more about it. Perhaps, she begins by exploring books or videos on tattooing. Through those sources, she learns how to properly set up a tattoo machine, how to use the needles, how to sterilize everything, how to create a tattoo sketch, and how to tattoo it on the skin. After receiving such knowledge, she then has to try it out. As she starts to test everything she learned, she perhaps discovers that some parts of it are not working the way she thought they would. For example, maybe the needles she used for shading a tattoo, didn’t shade it properly. Thus, she learns that those needles can’t produce the desired result. This part of exploration is called error – she tried to shade with specific needles, but it didn’t work. To find which needles actually can shade a tattoo, the girl has to try again with a different approach. She experiments with different needles over and over again until she discovers those which finally satisfyingly shade a tattoo. That’s how she experiences a trial and error process which educates her about the needles. In this way, the girl experiments with all of the other parts of tattooing, until she attains the needful knowledge and skills that activate her 3rd sign. Since the latter is also a symbol of personal experience that strengthens the 1st (Kurczak, Rasi Class 1, 2022), by not only reading books or watching videos on tattooing but also exploring that on her own, the girl also gains personal experience and builds more confidence for her 1st sign.

After completing what was required of the 3rd sign – thinking, testing, discovering, and gaining knowledge, skills, and personal experience, the conscious energy can start moving toward the next step of evolution awaiting in the 4th sign.

Conclusion

In Vedic Astrology, the Zodiac belt starts with the 1st sign, also known as Aries, which in itself is a symbol of the birth of new beginnings. This sign also has a great capacity to generate ideas concerning one’s vision of self and initiate a path toward their fruition. To begin carrying that out, the 1st sign gives birth to the 2nd sign, associated with the sign Taurus, which provides grounding and stabilizing energy. Based on the 1st sign’s prerequisites, the 2nd sign works on obtaining essential and tangible goods. Furthermore, this sign continues its activation by teaching one to be accountable for the accumulated belongings. When that is accomplished, the 2nd sign evolves into the 3rd sign, otherwise known as Gemini, which brings more complexity to the native. The latter becomes multiplex by starting to use mental abilities, such as thinking, creating, testing, analyzing, searching, and experimenting – all based on the previous signs’ themes. Through such actions rising from the 3rd sign, one learns more about how things can work and how things can’t work (Kurczak, Rasi Class 1, 2022). In addition, the 3rd sign instigates one to develop skills by constantly testing and experimenting. Next to attaining skills, the 3rd sign rewards the native with personal knowledge, experience, and expertise after spending much time and energy thinking, exploring, examining, and learning. Finally, once the 3rd sign is activated, the initiative energy pursues its journey toward other signs to complete the entire cycle of evolution.
