Numerology of Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius by Urmila Shinde

The twelve Rasis of the Zodiac represent the evolution of human consciousness through different stages. Primarily Rasis are represented numerologically by 1 to 12 numbers. Each number signifies a specific stage of this evolution. We will be exploring the evolution that happens from the 7th (Libra) through 9th (Sagittarius). But prior to that, we will briefly delve into the evolutionary journey from 1st through 6th signs in order to set the foundation for the 7th.

The journey of the consciousness from 1st through 6th:

  1. Aries: The number one represents the beginning, birth of an individual consciousness. It is when the consciousness identifies itself with an identity and initiates the journey on the path.

  2. Taurus: The number two represents coming together, resources, security and support. 2 provides the resources and nourishment needed to survive in order to stay on the journey that began in 1.

  3. Gemini: After getting nourished and supported in number 2, in 3, the consciousness starts to explore the world. 3 is where it goes through trial and error, it is curious and does the experiments to learn and acquire different skills.

  4. Cancer: We find out what works through the results of the experiments and explorations done in 3 and then build our foundation based on it in 4. 4 sets up our roots, provides stability to us. It is our home, our safe place to be. This is where we know what makes us happy and content.

  5. Leo: After being firmly established in our roots and inner security in number 4, we grow discernment in number 5. We make sure that we stay on the path we set on in number 1. Number 5 gives us adaptability to let go of things that are obstacles to our path and do things which are in alignment with the path.

  6. Virgo: The plans that we make to stick to our path in 5, in 6 we execute those efficiently through our daily activities. Number 6 represents the sustainable fulfillment which we get by doing our daily routines and duties while following our path.

7th: Libra

Qualities and Energies:

The 7th sign Libra is represented by a man holding a weighing scale in the middle of the marketplace. It is ruled by Venus. The element associated with it is Air and is Active in nature. The marketplace, active nature and air element indicate the exchange of things or energies. The weighing scale and Venus indicate measuring the value of things so that the scale is balanced and both the parties involved in the exchange gain equally from it. Libra indicates the exchange in which both the entities involved find the equal fulfillment.

Numerological Evolution:

7th (Libra) is 180 degrees opposite of the 1st (Aries) which indicates the Self, thus the 7th represents others (other than self). Here, we interact and get involved with other people. We project our blind spots or the things that we deny about ourselves to other people we form relationships with. Others around us act as mirrors so that our inner wounds get triggered and we become aware of this theme being played within ourselves to facilitate our inner healing.

Number 7 is also represented as the death since it is 180 degrees opposite of the 1st (Aries) which indicates the birth of an individual consciousness. Death is nothing but the transformation and an exchange of energy. In the mundane world it can be seen as a trade where we exchange currency for goods. On a spiritual level, this same exchange of energy happens between the different physical forms through life and death. Number 7 teaches us that the energy needs to flow through different forms for which death and transformation are inevitable. It is teaching us to look beyond forms. When we identify ourselves with the energy and not with a specific physical form, we realize that we are connected to everything around us, we are the same energy as the person sitting next to us, this dissolves our idea of false identification and we see the world as One. This dissolution of false identification is the death of an ego or small mind which was born in the 1st (Aries).

It is interesting to observe that Saturn gets exalted in the 7th (Libra). Saturn sees everyone as equal, he does not like the authority of one. Saturn also represents death, he makes us aware of the transformation of energy through death. He wants us to see the truth that we are energy not the forms we attach ourselves to and we are equal to everyone else which is well aligned with the teachings of 7th (Libra). While the Sun which represents our individual self and authority, gets debilitated in the 7th as our individual identifications get destroyed here.

8th: Scorpio

Qualities and Energies:

The 8th sign Scorpio is represented by a scorpion in his hole. It is ruled by Mars. The element associated with it is Water and is Fixed in nature. Scorpion in a hole symbolism represents internalized energy which is also indicated by it being a feminine sign. The fixed nature and water element indicate the deep water i.e. deep emotions. The nature of the ruler Mars is to face the challenges and fix things, cutting through the obstacles. Overall, this sign symbolizes working on our deep psychological issues or tendencies which act as obstacles to us.

Numerological Evolution:

After working on our projections and getting our false identities dissolved in the 7th, in 8th (Scorpio), we are able to see beyond physical forms and we experience oneness with others. We treat others as ourselves. We are able to form intimate and deep bonds with others. We are at peace with ourselves as well as with others. This is why 8 also represents sexual conjugation because in a healthy sex, we unite with the other person without our ego, we merge into the other, we see our self as a part of the other.

As we get exposed to our psychological patterns and wounds in the 7th, in 8th we are able to go one step further i.e. we go deeper in the layers of our psyche, contemplate and tap into our inner power. On the 8th, we deal with our inner demons and do the much needed inner work. That’s why Scorpio also represents deep psychology, occult sciences, metaphysics etc.

Interestingly the Moon which represents our mind, our psyche gets debilitated in 8th (Scorpio) as we are able to see through the play of our mind and tap into its deep secrets which causes the mind to lose its power over us.

9th: Sagittarius

Qualities and Energies:

The 9th sign Sagittarius is represented by a front half of a man and rear half of a horse carrying a bow with an arrow, aiming at the goal. It is ruled by Jupiter. The element associated with this sign is Fire and is Dual in nature. The symbolism of man and horse and the dual nature indicate the capacity to adapt as well as to be stable. As it is ruled by Jupiter which is the Sattvic and Brahmin planet and Fire element which symbolizes the Dharma i.e. our inner inspiration, the goal depicted here represents the higher purpose. Sagittarius indicates focussing our attention to the higher purpose and meaning.

Numerological Evolution:

The psychological patterns and conditioning that we project on others in 7th are our impressions or karmas accumulated through our past lives, number 7 gives us an opportunity to be aware of these karmas while 8th helps us in resolving them through the inner work which leads us to the 9th, where we can see our true self! Hence, in 9th (Sagittarius), we become aligned with who we truly are, we express our natural self, follow our inner inspiration i.e. our true Dharma. 9th also represents the culture and in culture we need to embrace diversity. Following our own Dharma makes us more acceptable to other’s Dharma.

After working through our false identifications in 7th and 8th, in the 9th we realize our connection to the higher Self, we see ourselves as a part of the higher Self. We are able to look at the bigger picture. That’s why the 9th also represents faith, beliefs and religion.

Since on the 9th, we are in tune with our core values and true self, our path in life becomes clear to us and we get ready for the long term commitment. Hence, 9th indicates the Ashrama which is a way of living life, it is the long term commitment we make, to a person as in the case of marriage or to any path in life. In a nutshell, on the 9th, we get committed to a higher long term goal in life which is beyond our individual self.

The path which is initiated in 1st (Aries) and maintained in 5th (Leo), in 9th (Sagittarius), gets the higher meaning and purpose associated with it. We realize the higher dimension to our path and become committed to it.

10 and beyond:

From the 9th sign through 10th (Capricorn) and 11th (Aquarius), the focus of evolution shifts from the individual consciousness to the collective consciousness. The higher good of the collective or masses gets prioritized over the personal gains and desires. And in the 12th (Pisces), having resolved our Karmas and psychological patterns through this evolutionary journey, our mind gets dissolved leading our individual consciousness back to the pure higher consciousness which is Moksha or liberation!
