Harry - 3rd House
3 Third House
The third house represents peers and younger siblings. It shows courage, hobbies and skills. The third house in this chart has only one indicator for prosperity whilst is has 6 for annihilation including Rasi aspects from the malefic planets, the Sun and Mars.
3.1 Person’s Life Experience
Prince Harry has no younger siblings. He has had a military career which involves courage, adventure and peers (brothers-in-arms). He played the sports of rugby and polo. He is the driving force behind the Invictus Games which champions the athleticism of wounded service personnel. He has also worked with charities to promote sport in schools and communities throughout the world.
3.2 Sign
The third house is taking place in Pisces. Pisces is a feminine, water sign. It is the natural 12th sign of the zodiac and its symbolism relates to transcending and dissolution. It is a mutable sign and associated with moksha.
Harry’s creation of the Invictus Games demonstrates Pisces influence on his third house. Throughout his career, he has used sport to inspire hope and greatness in those less fortunate. Traditionally, for a soldier, injury is synonymous with death (12th sign) because there is no role for that person any more. Harry’s Invictus Games has become a beacon of hope for military personnel in this situation. Yavana Jataka describes Pisces as filled with ‘auspicious places of gods and pilgrimages’. With the Invictus Games, Prince Harry has created a Shangri-La, a destination that wounded service people can look to for hope and strive to attain. (N.B. Invictus was a description of the Roman god Jupiter, the owner of the sign of Pisces, as well as the Sun and Mars (see Rasi aspects outlined in section 3)).
3.3 Planet
Jupiter rules the 3rd house. Jupiter is gentle, expansive and optimistic. It is a karaka for grace, forgiveness, creativity, children, games and good cheer. Jupiter is benefic and sattvic.
In this chart, Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn. It has 124% Shad bala but no Ayana bala (see section 1.4.1). It is being delighted by the Sun and Moon to more than its starvation from Mercury and Venus. Jupiter maintains its debilitation in the first 4 vargas but is exalted in the D7 of children and legacy.
Jupiter shares a mutual agenda with the third house around games and optimism. The Invictus Games demonstrates how Jupiter has influenced Harry and his third house. Jupiter itself is debilitated (as are the soldiers in the Games) in Harry’s first house of the body. This first house is ruled by Saturn the karaka for disability and lameness. Harry has brought the best of these qualities together to create (Jupiter) a long-lasting legacy (Jupiter exalted in the D7) for wounded (Saturn) service personnel, bringing hope (Jupiter) to loss (Saturn).
3.4 Bhava Yogas
3.4.1 Ascendant Yogas
This links the 3rd house of ‘brothers-in-arms’ with the 12th house of losses. It, once again, demonstrates confluence with the themes that brought Harry to create the Invictus Games.
3.4.2 3rd in the 1st
Having the third lord in the first house connects courage, teammates and adventures with a person’s life path. Prince Harry has travelled extensively throughout his life enjoying adventures as a working royal, a service man and a private citizen. It is typical of Jupiter, as a karaka for abundance, to provide so many opportunities. Prince Harry has excelled in team sports such as rugby and polo. He joined the military where his life path could express the courage and peer-to-peer relationships that are so difficult to experience as a prince.
However, given the annihilation of the house, the achievement of personal ambition (3rd house) has been difficult for Prince Harry. It creates personal frustration and makes the prince restless and impatient. This explains Harry’s recent exit from the royal family (Bazaraa and Murphy 2020), (Dixon 2020). Given the state of the house and the lord, this yoga means one’s personal ambitions are competing with one’s life path for the very limited resources available in this area.
