Harry 10.jpg

The fifth house represents children, romantic affairs, intelligence and improving one’s life.  It is the house where a person takes their life in the direction that they want it to go.  The fifth house of this chart has 7 indicators for prosperity and 2 for annihilation.

5.1        Person’s Life Experience

Prince Harry has one child, has had romances with beautiful women and has been trying to carve out his own life path for most of his life.  Academically he struggled and is not known for his intellectual prowess.

5.2        Sign

Taurus is a fixed, earthy, artha sign.  These heavy and grounding qualities have focused the prince’s intellect on practical things rather than cerebral pursuits.  For example, his higher education was at a military college rather than a university.

5.3        Planet

Venus is the ruler of the fifth house.  Venus is gentle, female, Brahmin (priestly) and wet.  It has both water and air elements, making it of kapha and vata constitutions. It is a karaka for desire, diplomacy and good taste.

Venus is in its Own Home dignity in Libra.  It is 6th in Shad bala being especially low in Dig bala.  Venus is Exalted in the D9 and D10 of this chart.

Being a gentle, female planet, in a female sign is demonstrated in Harry’s approach to defining his own life.  Although this has obviously been important to him, he has been passive and receptive rather than aggressive in pursuing his own path.  This reflects Venus’s air and watery qualities and the fact that Venus will not be activated as the dasa lord until Harry is 98 years old.  Venus also has a low Dig bala score making it hard for Harry to hear the directions given by this planet.  Interestingly, he waited until the birth of his first child and the confidence provided by his marriage, before taking action to transform his life path.  This allowed him to act on behalf of others which is the feminine approach to change and conflict.

5.4        Planets in the Fifth House

There are two planets in the fifth house – the Moon and Rahu.

5.4.1        Moon

The Moon is the 7th lord in the chart and the strongest planet in Shad bala.  The Moon represents the emotions and the mind.  Like Taurus and Venus, it is female and receptive.  This creates confluence for Prince Harry’s feminine approach to changing his life path.  It is in Moolatrikona dignity in the birth chart and Own Home dignity in the D9.  This shows how important women and his marriage are in creating change and a sense of purpose in his life. (N.B. Venus is also Exalted in the D9 of marriage).

5.4.2        Rahu

Rahu indicates the area of life a person is drawn to but has no innate skills or knowledge of how to be successful in that area.  When it is in the 5th house it will disturb the mind as a way of encouraging the person to focus on their own inspiration.

Having Rahu in the same sign as the Moon is also going to disturb the mind because the Moon is a karaka for the mind.  This confusion can create emotional ups and downs and endear a person to feel as like an outcast to their own emotions and mind.  In this way, Rahu can be seen as contributing to the emotional turmoil Harry experienced after his mother’s death (see blog pages 1.4.1, 6.1, 7.3, 12.2, 12.5.1, 12.5.2).  It can also lead to outbursts or blowing things out of proportion as the person doesn’t have mental boundaries to protect their mind, emotions and women in their lives (the Moon as a karaka for the feminine and Venus houselord as a karaka for women).  This can be seen in Harry’s attempts to protect Meghan from the kind of attack from the press (the masses, the Moon) that his mother (the Moon) suffered. (Gajanan 2019, '...in an emotional announcement ... he wrote ..."I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."').

Rahu is having a powerful effect on the Moon as the Moon is isolated in the chart.  Its nearest support, on either side, is 4 houses away.  Rahu is the master of illusion and it is easy to see how it can generate fear scenarios for a Saturn Ascendant.

It is heartening to note that Saturn, the commander of Rahu is Exalted in the D9.  This indicates that the Rahu journey in the prince’s life will feel justified at the end of his life.  Venus, the lord of Rahu is also Exalted in the D9.

1.5        Bhava Yogas

1.5.1        Ascendant Yogas

Venus creates a yoga of the 5th and 10th houses.  For Capricorns (who, as Saturn ascendants, are naturally unrefined) the activation provided by the 10th house allows grace (5th house) to be somewhat accentuated.  This yoga gives the capacity for Capricorns to be a little smoother than would otherwise be the case.  In Prince Harry’s case, it is important to note that Venus will not be the dasa lord until 2083.

1.5.2        5th in the 10th

Having Venus in the 10th house links a dharmic houselord with a house of work and responsibility.  This shows that the person could have a high position, work for government, with children or as a professional athlete.  We can see this dynamic play out in Harry’s life as he has worked at the highest levels of government diplomacy in his role as a prince and has excelled in sports such as rugby and polo.  His promotion of mental health charities also demonstrates the 5th house of the mind in the 10th house of fame/career.

This yoga can also create tension between choosing one’s own path versus one’s career (dharma versus artha).  This tension can cause a person to put their children before their work, for their romances to affect their reputation and for government, tax or legal problems to interfere with their public standing.  This can be seen in the recent changes to Harry’s life where the birth of his first child has prompted a complete change of life direction.  These changes have provoked legal, tax and governmental issues which are still in process.
