Harry - 6th House
The 6th house represents health, enemies, obstacles, debts and daily routines. The sixth house of this chart has 4 indicators for prosperity and 6 for annihilation.
6.1 Person’s Life Experience
Although Prince Harry has struggled with depression, he has otherwise experienced good physical health. Being born as a prince has protected him, at a certain level, from the threat of debts and enemies. However, inside himself, he has experienced his role as a prince and the tabloid media as enemies and obstacles. Therefore, this is a life where the external threats are mitigated, but the internal experience is of the ever-present burden of enemies and obstacles. (“Harry feels … that the press killed his mother.” (Tinubu 2020), “I don’t think (any one of the royal family … wants to be king or queen), but we… carry out our duties at the right time.” (Topping 2017), “Prince Harry … ‘struggled’ with his life as a royal long before even meeting Meghan.” (Dixon 2020)).
6.2 Sign
Gemini is a mutable air sign. Its symbol is twins holding a club and a lyre. It is rajasic and of the vata constitution. Gemini’s mutable, rajasic and air energy provides confluence for Harry’s 6th house experience being more mental than physical. These qualities directly affect the mind as it is also changeable, light and fast-moving. Gemini’s twin symbolism is reflected in Prince Harry’s approach to his ‘enemies’, the media. On one hand, he is open and charming (the lyre), on the other hand, he is belligerent and litigious (the club). (Tinubu 2020, Speaking of Harry's relationship with the press ... "William ... thinks that sometimes his brother is too open and then tries to close up, and that doesn't work.")
6.3 Planet
Mercury rules the sixth house. Mercury is rajasic and of mixed constitution and mixed taste. It is benefic and malefic (depending on the company it keeps). It is witty and a karaka for communication, mental perception and friendship.
Mercury is Exalted in Prince Harry’s rasi chart. It is 3rd in Shad bala. However, it has only 11 points of Dig bala. This makes it hard for Harry to hear the direction this planet is giving him. Mercury is also Mrita, meaning its karmas are nearly exhausted. Mercury is being agitated by the Sun and starved by the Moon.
Mercury is located with the Sun in Virgo. The Sun, as a karaka for royalty, has provided protection for Harry against 6th house suffering. But, it also challenges Mercury’s sovereignty which makes boundary setting difficult (Agitation Lajjitaadi Avastha). This can be seen in the relationship Prince Harry has with his enemy, the press. He struggles to communicate and enforce safe boundaries swapping between candid interviews and lawsuits.
Being starved by the Moon, Mercury’s natural objectivity is skewed by the ego’s needs. As both the Moon and Mercury are karakas for the mind, this starvation affects Mercury’s mental perception. This confluence confirms that problems in this area of life, (6th), will be experienced primarily at the mental level.
6.4 Bhava Yogas
6.4.1 Ascendant Yogas
This yoga links service with dharma. Prince Harry was born into a life of service (6th) and royalty (9th). The yoga also creates a utilitarian approach to inspiration. Prince Harry demonstrates this in the causes that he champions and the charities for which he is patron. They are all practical, requiring effort and hard-work (such as sport for children, athletic excellence for wounded soldiers and mental health) rather than cultural, intellectual or artistic.
6.4.2 6th in the 9th
Harry’s chart emphasises this ascendant yoga as his Mercury is placed in the 9th house. His choice of a military career is one where a person finds meaning through service. It has also allowed him to advocate for the ‘common man’ in his championing of issues related to wounded service personnel. It can, however, put a strain on one’s relationship with one’s culture, causing one to work hard and struggle for the culture one was born into. This view is articulated by Harry in an interview entitled: “Prince Harry says no one in the royal family wants to be king or queen” (see section 6.1, (Topping 2017)). It also indicates that finding fortune and meaning might be a struggle or be delayed. As a Saturn ascendant (see previous Blog post - section 1.3) and with Mercury not being the dasa lord until 2059, Harry’s journey to meaning and fortune may be a long one.
