Harry - 8th House
The eighth house represents sudden breaks and changes and other people’s money. The 8th house in this chart has 5 indicators for prosperity and 2 for annihilation.
8.1 Person’s Life Experience
Harry, as a prince and member of the royal family, has definitely benefitted from other people’s wealth. He has inherited money from his mother and from the legacy of the British royal family. His life has also been marked by dramatic changes. For example, the sudden death of his mother and his recent, unforeseen split with the royal family.
8.2 Sign
Leo is a fixed, sattvic, dharmic, fire sign. It is often seen as regal because Leo, the lion, is the king of the jungle. Harry’s inherited wealth comes from his connection to the royal line.
8.3 Planet
The eighth house in this chart is ruled by the Sun. The Sun is cruel, masculine, fiery and inspiring. It is a karaka for the soul, the king (royalty) and self-confidence. It is intelligent and consistent. Harry’s Sun gives confluence to the pattern of royal wealth that has been identified above in the 8th house and the sign of Leo.
The Sun is in enemy dignity in this chart and, although it is 5th in Shad bala, it is not particularly weak in any of the balas. It is Exalted in the D7 chart of one’s creativity, children and legacy. This indicates that the legacy that Prince Harry creates will be inspiring. The Invictus Games has brought inspiration to thousands of affected service people. Jupiter is also Exalted in the D7. Together these Exalted planets in the D7, (representing creativity, children, legacy and inspiration), have prompted Harry to make a significant change (8th house) to his life. His inspiration for his son to have the ‘childhood he always wanted’ overrode his sense of duty and tradition. “‘The decision that I have made … to step back is not one I made lightly. … there really was no other option’ (Harry) said” (Ritschel 2020).
8.4 Bhava Yogas
8.4.1 Ascendant Yogas
The Sun can be a challenging planet for Capricorn ascendants because the Sun and Saturn are enemies. However, the Sun can give a Capricorn ascendant the inner strength and intelligence to bear the sacrifices that are inevitable for hard-working, serious and responsible Capricorns.
8.4.2 8th in the 9th
The Sun in this chart is benefiting from being with an Exalted 9th lord in the 9th house. This brings together the royalty of Leo’s ruler, the Sun, with the house of culture and tradition. Harry has been able to accumulate wealth easily, raise funds for ethical causes through his charity work and had access to legacies, inheritances and family wealth (see previous Harry Blog - section 2.1). Another facet of this yoga is an interest in understanding (8th house) other cultures (9th house). Prince Harry has recently spoken about realising his own unconscious racial bias having left his culture and married a woman of biracial background (BBC 2020). The position of Harry’s Sun encourages him to challenge cultural small-mindedness and inspire change in established traditions.
One downside of this yoga is that a person can attract negative circumstances through their negative thinking (Kurczak and Fish 2014, p160). The yoga contributed to Harry staying stuck in his negativity after his mother’s sudden death. His transformation through therapy and his marriage (9th House) have supported him to re-direct that solar energy into positive things and this may be why he is sometimes criticised for being ‘new age’ or ‘snow flake’ (McGrath 2020).
