The twelfth house is a subtle and inner place that represents charity, losses, exile and distant lands.  The 12th house in this chart has 2 indicators for success and 6 for annihilation.

12.1        Person’s Life Experience

Prince Harry has experienced the traumatic loss of a parent.  He currently lives in the U.S. after being somewhat exiled from his land of birth due to tensions with the press, his family and his role.

12.2        Sign

Sagittarius is a sattvic, mutable, masculine, fire sign.  Its mythological creature is a half-man, half-horse archer aiming his bow and arrow at his vision.  Jaimini describes Sagittarius as ‘while proceeding, a fall from a vehicle and a height’ (Kurczak 2017).  Sagittarius sign joins the deep insight into humanity learned in Scorpio with Capricorn’s ‘rubber-hits-the-road’ hard work.  This process can cause the idealism of Jupiter to falter on its way to materialising its spiritual vision.  For this reason, Sagittarius can be a traumatic classroom.  Harry’s unexpected loss of his mother deeply disturbed his spiritual vision.

12.3        Planet

Jupiter rules the 12th house.  Just like the 12th house, Jupiter is a karaka for charity and, like Sagittarius, Jupiter wants to bring improvement to the world, self-lessly.

These mutual agendas explain Harry’s life-long involvement in philanthropy and that everything from his first foundation (Sentebale) to his most famous venture (The Invictus Games), are not embellished with his personal name.

Jupiter is being starved by Mercury in this chart.  When starved by Mercury, Jupiter feels cheated and with the sense that bad luck could have been prevented if all information was available.  It predisposes a person to find comfort in conspiracy theories.  This Lajjitaadi Avastha placement provides confluence to the prince experiencing the tragic loss of his mother in the context of something wrong, that should never have happened.  (See previous Harry Blog posts - section 1.4.1 and section 6.1 “Harry feels … that the press killed his mother” (Tinubu 2020)).

12.4        Planets in the House

12.4.1        Mars

Mars is posited in the 12th house.  As discussed in section 4.3, Mars is cruel, fiery, masculine and of the Warrior caste.  It is a karaka for strength and courage.  It was during Prince Harry’s Mars dasa that he began training to be a soldier.  In his role in the military, he was posted to distant lands on many occasions.  Mars shares a fire-agenda with Sagittarius and, in this context, his experience of tragic loss can be seen as the cruel, purifying fire that tempers and strengthens the spirit.

12.5        Bhava Yogas

12.5.1        Ascendant Yogas

Jupiter links what the mind is interested in (3rd house) with losses (12th house).  In Harry’s life, this has predisposed his thoughts to be around loss.  As Jupiter is Debilitated in this chart, this predisposition easily provokes feelings of hopeless (hope is a Jupiterian quality).  Perhaps, because of this, Harry knew that “completely block(ing) his emotions” (see previous Harry Blog post - section 1.4.1) was the only strategy he could employ as an 11-year-old to deal with loss. (N.B. Jupiter doesn’t mature until 16 years of age).

12.5.2        12th in the 1st

This yoga joins the subtle nature of the 12th house with a person’s life path.  This can make a person’s direction in life, hard to find or take time to develop.  It can also affect self-confidence as 12th house energy is so hidden it is hard to bring it to the surface where it can be seen by others.  The person may find it difficult to set boundaries as the 12th house and Jupiter are so expansive and subtle.  It does, however, link altruism to someone’s life path.

These yoga combinations can be seen in Harry’s life.  As discussed throughout the paper, Harry has struggled to find his personal life path.  This yoga only adds confluence to that experience.  Harry has been involved with charities and improving the world his whole life.

This yoga also predisposes a person to feel cheated and aware of ‘secret’ enemies.  Harry was ‘cheated’ out of being a king (by being born second) and believes there were secret enemies involved in the death of his mother.  “Harry was absolutely furious that his father’s advisors had put out a statement (saying that Prince Harry and Prince William) ‘agree with the verdict (of unlawful killing) and are both hugely grateful’” (Tinubu 2020).

This 12th lord in the 1st house also speaks to a great respect for privacy.  Prince Harry has struggled with how much his privacy has been violated throughout his life and this is perhaps the main reason he has left the royal family to raise his own child away from the press.  The yoga also indicates living in a distant land, which Harry has done to protect his and his family’s privacy.
